In September 2022, the artist held a solo exhibition titled "City. Scenery" at the Newman Cardinal Arts and Culture Gallery in Macau. Concurrently, a collection of the exhibition's artworks, "A Day," was published, documenting 141 cityscapes.
"City. Scenery" showcases a series of creations primarily based on pencil drawings. "City" refers to Hong Kong and Macau, and "scenery" represents various aspects of these two cities. Both cities are vibrant and colorful, filled with diverse sights: East and West, old and new cultures, large and small, and so on. From 2020 to 2022, like many places worldwide, both cities experienced fear and uncertainty. While ordinary people continued their daily lives, many changes were still evident. The artist wandered through these changes, collecting scenes that moved her—she captured them with her phone and then drew them with pencils on canvas-bound recycled wood. French philosopher Michel Foucault pointed out that ethnology constitutes a true and rich treasure trove of experience and concepts. In other words, everything around the city is a cultural relic; even if old and faded, they carry diverse cultural meanings. Cultural relics derive their significance from their connection to people. The combination of people and objects provides a field for different experiences and relationship connections. Through wandering, observing, photographing, and then creating in the city—the artist painted this "City. Scenery" with the hope of brushing past the audience in the city—experiencing those familiar or long-forgotten and gradually fading facets. Although the scenery may be ordinary and fragmented, it ultimately involves people and warmth.
