Contemporary Hong Kong writers often experiment with different languages, attempting to break away from the stereotypical and negative "Cantonese vs. Standard Chinese" binary division deeply embedded in the perceptions of writers, readers, and academia regarding Cantonese writing. They aim to reconstruct its aesthetic characteristics, linguistic style, and discursive framework. Urban Symphony and Unmissable Masterpieces: On Hong Kong Cantonese Writing attempts to summarize and supplement previous perspectives on contemporary Hong Kong literary works written in Cantonese, placing them within a more appropriate research framework. In the process, it touches upon works related to Cantonese writing by Kwun Nan, Shu Xiangcheng, Yam Kong, Dung Kai-cheung, Chan Ho-kei, and Lau Yee-wah.
