History is just a moment. But this moment can burst out multiple possibilities and conclusions.

As a small fishing village facing the ocean, long before the opening of the port, this small piece of land was already the place where the Central Plains regime and the maritime empire met on a narrow road. Each encounter created a Hong Kong, which later folded into today's Hong Kong.

In 2020, CUP Publishing published the picture book "This is Hong Kong" for the first time in Hong Kong, which recreates 100% of the gorgeous Hong Kong in the eyes of Czech travel painter Miroslav Šašek in the early 1960s. The so-called 100% is not a perfect end. There may be 100% hidden in the middle that each takes what it needs and insists on its own opinions. Hong Kong was also born from such a collision. What this book wants to capture is the moment when historical inspiration collides, and unfolds 100% what everyone sees:

➢ Did the development and planning of Kowloon City originally benefit from the Portuguese?

➢ In the eyes of Vietnamese historians, Hong Kong was once part of the Zhao Dynasty of Vietnam?

➢ Has Hong Kong received financial assistance from the United States to build villages?

The book is divided into three chapters. The first chapter tells the story of Hong Kong, which was located on the border of the Central Plains regime before the 20th century. It was not only home to survivors and foreigners of the previous dynasty, but also had the footprints of a maritime empire. It was finally opened to the world by the British; The second chapter focuses on the 20th century, exploring how the intersection of different ethnic groups and forces created Hong Kong's unique and mixed urban appearance; the third chapter analyzes how the image of Hong Kong in the eyes of outsiders changed geopolitical relations and even inspired changes in the world.

In the end, what kind of footprint will Hong Kong leave on its own history? Is the Hong Kong in our eyes 100% Hong Kong? Let this book make up for the Hong Kong we have not encountered.
