Chong Meiyan graduated from the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts with a Bachelor of Honors in Psychology from the Faculty of Social Sciences and a Postgraduate Diploma in Screenwriting from the School of Drama at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts. Master of Screenwriting at Royal Holloway University of London, UK. In addition to writing stage plays, he is also engaged in script translation, adaptation, text creation for musicals and operas.

Chuang has won the Best Screenplay Award at the Hong Kong Drama Awards six times. In 2003, he was awarded the Outstanding Young Screenwriter Award by the Hong Kong Drama Society. In 2004, he was awarded the Lee Hysan Scholarship by the Asian Cultural Council to study in the United States. In 2010, he was awarded the Artist of the Year Award (Drama) by the Hong Kong Arts Development Council.
