"Twelve Old and New Essays" contains ten of Wang Wenxing's early works that have not yet been published, as well as two essays "M and W" (1988) and "Mingyue Night" (2006). Therefore, the "new" and "old" series come from The relative time required to complete a work.
Most of these early works published from 1958 to 1961 were works published before "Fifteen Novels", including Wang Wenxing's first novel "Vigil" published in April 1958 and "Bronze Horse" published in 1959 under the pen name "Bronze Horse". Literary Magazine's novel "Bi".
