Psychoanalysis of Mother-Daughter Relationships: The Dominated Daughters

The self-doubt of East Asian daughters often contains the words of their mothers. The root of this self-blame is an intense desire to be a "daughter worthy of love." Mothers, too, have stumbled through patriarchy, transitioning from someone's daughter to a girl's mother. Both mothers and daughters navigate the same labyrinth. The complexity of the mother-daughter relationship lies in the way each anticipates the other's reactions, leading to the constant amplification of negative elements within the relationship. To find a new solution for the mother-daughter relationship, what we need is not conflict, but to join hands and build a more open mother-daughter relationship.
