Recognized as one of the most knowledgeable people of the 20th century
The most precious collection of Borges' speeches. New 20th anniversary edition.
Today, a new era accompanied by poetry and art has emerged again.
What is eternal? A note to the next round of halcyon poets.
Let's follow Borges, who loves reading and imagining, as he talks about poetry and art.
From the autumn of 1967 to 1968, Borges was invited to give the Norton Lectures at Harvard University in the United States. Each of the six lectures has a theme, ranging from reading poetry, metaphors, music, how to translate, to his own advice to fellow poets. On the same line from poetry to technique, extending to novels and prose, how to highlight the writing and imagination of words. "Poetry and language are not only a medium of communication, but also a kind of passion, a kind of joy, and a kind of music." Borges, who was well-read, talked about the world's classics in six lectures, and also shared with readers the stories that inspired his creation, as well as the turning points, transformations and ideas he upheld in his life's creative process. His unique wisdom, charm and humor made people feel Left a deep impression. The last lecture, "The Poet's Creed," is more like his confession and his literary oath. This book is a lesson about the great writer's love and sensibility for literature. Today, when poetry is becoming more and more rhetorical, let's read again how Bochus gained insights from thousands of years of changes in poetic art to help readers find new ways of understanding. The precious nature of a good poem and the excitement it evokes make it feel fresh over time and benefit endlessly.
Borges started a dialogue with writers and texts of all ages, and these themes are interesting even if they are quoted and discussed again and again. Including Homer's epics, "The Arabian Nights", "Don Quixote", Shakespeare, Keats, Edgar Allan Poe, Stevenson, Whitman, Joyce, and of course himself. The book is easy to understand and full of profound personal reflections, without being too naive or cynical. It discusses literature through epic poems and world literary masterpieces from various periods. Its in-depth and simple guidance makes it a classic masterpiece that readers who love literature cannot miss.
"I believe that we first feel the beauty of poetry, and then we start to think about the meaning of poetry."
Whenever we read poetry, art happens.
