"Floating White" is a collection of art critiques by author Cheung Wai-sum, presented in the form of essays and fiction. The book is divided into three chapters: "Parallel Worlds," "Onomatopoeia," and "Where There Is Light and Where There Is Not." The author collaborates with three Hong Kong visual artists – Anthony Yu, Lo Lai-lai, and Cheung Tsz-hin – conducting interviews and appraising their artistic practices. This approach transforms the conventional form of art criticism into readable and writable stories and essays. It blurs the boundaries between art creation and critique, exploring the possibilities of art writing. The book not only responds to their works through writing but also, in the process of writing, creates a heterogeneous work as if collaborating with the three artists in parallel universes.
