Lo Yuk-may's creations often use "water bodies" as a thread to explore Hong Kong's geopolitics and history, as well as the maritime migration of Asian populations during the Cold War. As her first monograph, "Sea Blues to Black" embarks on a thirteen-year (2010-2023) creative retrospective through a displaced geographical imagination. It not only evokes many bodily memories from the artist's past fieldwork but also intertwines space, emotion, and memory into an imagination. Over more than a decade, this has braided into a pigtail, a lifeline for the artist herself, as she writes in her preface: "To move forward, if possible."
