The "Macau Knowledge Series," a collaboration between the Macao Foundation and Joint Publishing (Hong Kong) Company Limited, introduces Macau's rich local culture to the public and tourists through accessible language and abundant illustrations. Recently, a new book in the series, "Macau and Morrison" by Dr. Liu Wei, was launched, offering an in-depth examination of Macau's unique role in modern Sino-Western cultural exchange. It is now simultaneously available in Hong Kong and Macau.

Since its founding, Macau has been home to numerous influential historical figures. In the early 19th century, the British Protestant missionary Robert Morrison (1782–1834) came to China and resided in Macau for twenty-five years. Against the backdrop of the Qing dynasty's closed-door policy and prohibition of religion, he pioneered a new approach to indirect missionary work through compiling dictionaries, translating the Bible, establishing schools, founding newspapers, and setting up medical clinics. These efforts not only promoted the spread of Christianity in China but also substantially fostered the fusion of Sino-Western cultures, with Macau serving as a crucial stage for these historical activities.

The author of this book, Liu Wei, holds a Ph.D. in Literature (Journalism) and a Master of Arts (Communication) from Nanjing Normal University. He also has a Master of Public Administration from Nanjing University and was a visiting scholar at the Media School of Bournemouth University in the UK. He previously published the monograph "Research on Morrison's Communication Activities in China" and currently works in the propaganda system of Jiangsu Province.

Through extensive historical materials, Liu Wei systematically presents Morrison's activities in Macau and the era in which he lived. The book meticulously analyzes the background of his arrival in China, his family life, and his contributions in fields such as medicine and education, unfolding a vivid historical panorama for readers.
