Since establishing his independent photography studio in 1998, Mikiya Takimoto has become a representative figure in Japanese commercial photography. He has not only collaborated with Chie Morimoto as the photographer for Mr. Children's album covers but also shot key visuals for Hirokazu Kore-eda's many film and television works, such as "Our Little Sister" and "The Makanai: Cooking for the Maiko House", as well as Ryuichi Sakamoto's musical.
"Mikiya Takimoto: The Eve of Photography" features over 80 of his works, not only documenting collaborations with top Japanese creative professionals but also collecting his print advertising works for famous brands such as Suntory Natural Water, TOYOTA, Pocari Sweat, and Calorie Mate.
Mikiya Takimoto's meticulous creative execution often involves a dedication that, in the digital age, seems almost like artisanal craftsmanship. However, with his sophisticated photography techniques and mastery of visual language as a foundation, he successfully expresses different visual demands for films, historical dramas, albums, and commercial advertisements through the distinct styles of various cameras and films.
This book is Mikiya Takimoto's work journal since his debut, as well as a collection of these photographic works. It also chronicles a photographer's journey from apprenticeship to maturity, developing a personal style through various commercial collaborations.
