This is not the Little Red Riding Hood I know!
The hilarious "grandparent-grandchild dialogue" subverts classic fairy tales, making the story absurd and fun,
making young readers laugh out loud and enter a wonderful world full of imagination.

"Once upon a time, there was a little girl named Little Yellow Riding Hood."

"That's not right, it's Little Red Riding Hood!"

"Ah... you're right! It's Little Red Riding Hood."

"Her mother called her and said, 'Listen, Little Green Riding Hood...'"

"No, it's Little Red Riding Hood."

A little girl asks her grandpa, who is reading the newspaper, to tell her the story of Little Red Riding Hood, but Grandpa is distracted and keeps messing up, telling the familiar classic fairy tale in a jumbled way. Sometimes Little Yellow Riding Hood appears, then Little Green Riding Hood, and instead of meeting the big bad wolf on the road, Little Red Riding Hood meets a giraffe. The granddaughter keeps correcting Grandpa, trying to pull the derailed plot back on track, but each time Grandpa's "mistakes" lead to unexpected places, and the ending makes one chuckle.

In the dialogue between this grandparent and grandchild, an unexpectedly humorous and creative story is created, which is the charm of this book! Everyone has heard the story of Little Red Riding Hood, but the creator cleverly incorporates "mistakes" through the character of Grandpa, making the classic story full of fun and making readers unable to put the book down, turning page after page.

The text in the book is from Gianni Rodari, a well-known children's literature writer hailed as the "father of modern Italian children's literature." The original comes from his short story "Stories Told Wrong" (A sbagliare le storie) in his 1962 fairy tale collection "Telephone Tales." The illustrations are created by the award-winning artist Beatrice Alemagna. This book was published to commemorate Rodari's 100th birthday.

Under Rodari's vivid pen, this story, which is only a few hundred words long, is full of vitality. The story is not only the creator's creative process but also a bridge for emotional communication between the storyteller and the listener. Through his works, he shows respect for children, developing the story into a game that actively involves children, encouraging them to challenge existing frameworks and imagine what will happen after the story ends, or what new possibilities will open up when new elements are introduced.

Illustrator Alemagna regards Rodari as her "spiritual mentor" and showcases her creativity in this book with a bold and childlike approach. She sometimes portrays characters exceptionally enlarged, while the background is simplified, creating a sharp contrast; sometimes illustrations occupy the entire page, enhancing the visual effect and filling the story with surprise and imagination. The warm and eye-catching color palette creates a lively atmosphere, complementing the dramatic nature of the text. The granddaughter's exaggerated expressions and comical actions on each page add both fun and highlight the humor of the story.

"Grandpa, You Told the Story Wrong!" not only makes people laugh out loud but also allows readers to re-experience the charm of stories. When we embrace the unexpected surprises brought by "mistakes," the story becomes even more moving.
