Thirty-six Views of Lion Rock

As a famous Hong Kong mountain and landmark, Lion Rock is more than just a mountain; its symbolism and meaning have continuously evolved with the times. Inspired by the renowned Japanese Ukiyo-e artist Hokusai's woodblock print series "Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji," Romain Jacquet-Lagrèze decided to capture thirty-six views of this famous Hong Kong mountain in a similar yet modernized way, narrating its legendary story through images.

In each artwork, traces of Lion Rock can be found. Sometimes it lies quietly in the distance, partially obscured by skyscrapers or bustling cityscapes; at other times, it is far from the madding crowd, enjoying the peaceful and tranquil countryside. Some works were captured at dawn, others during the blue hour at sunset... "Thirty-six Views of Lion Rock" is a love letter to the mountain that Hongkongers know and love most.
