Art History After Walter Benjamin
Art History After Walter Benjamin
This book is a collection of art historical research papers.
Benjamin once said: "The history of art is a prophetic story. It can only be described from the perspective of the present, because each era has its own new traditions, and uses these new traditions to re-understand the predictions carried by previous art. . Therefore, there is no more important task for the history of art than to decipher the prophecies which, in the great works of the past, gave them the value they had at the time they were created.”
The articles collected in this book are discussions of art history following the research and thinking work carried out by Benjamin's "Arcade Project". Among them, some articles reveal the key points and reality of Benjamin's thought; others start from Benjamin's thought and continue to focus on issues such as temporality, materiality and dialectical construction of art history.
