"Seeing" is a renowned poem by Xi Xi (1937-2022), a famous writer and poet in the Chinese-speaking world. It depicts the protagonist on their way to work early in the morning, "seeing" the mundane home and bustling city, but also "seeing" the longed-for mountains, wilderness, and leisurely freedom deep within. Stephen Wong Chun Hei is renowned for his paintings of Hong Kong's natural landscapes. "Seeing" was originally included in "Xi Xi's Poetry Collection" published by Hong Fan Bookstore. The "Xi Xi Poetry Collection Picture Book Series" invites a group of famous artists and picture book illustrators to reinterpret some of these poems into picture books, offering a different kind of reading pleasure.

Text / Xi Xi (1937–2022)
Born Zhang Yan in Zhongshan, Guangdong, in 1937 in Shanghai, she settled in Hong Kong in 1950. A graduate of Grantham College of Education in Hong Kong, she once taught and was a member of Hong Kong's "Pillow Literary Magazine". In 1983, her short story "A Woman Like Me" received a recommended award in the United Daily News Fiction Prize, officially beginning her literary connection with Taiwan. She is a prolific writer with approximately fifty works, including poetry collections, essays, and long and short novels. Her innovative forms and content have had a profound and lasting impact. In 2005, she received the "Flowerbud World Chinese Literary Award" from Sin Chew Daily. In 2011, she was named the "Annual Literary Writer" at the Hong Kong Book Fair, and in 2018, she received the "Newman Prize for Chinese Literature".

Illustrations / Stephen Wong Chun Hei
Stephen Wong Chun Hei was born in 1986 and graduated from the Fine Arts Department of the Chinese University of Hong Kong in 2008. In the summer of 2023, he was invited to be an Artist-in-Residence and Visiting Arts Scholar at Jesus College, University of Oxford. "Landscape" has always been the central theme of Stephen Wong Chun Hei's paintings. His early works drew inspiration from landscape scenes in video games, highlighting the visual impact of virtual worlds. In recent years, he frequently hikes and paints outdoors in various natural areas across Hong Kong, drawing inspiration from sketches and memories, combined with his personal imagination, to create paintings with a sense of journey, depicting the relationship between humans and nature. Stephen Wong Chun Hei's works are collected by local and international private collectors, and are also part of the collections of institutions such as the Hong Kong Museum of Art, Hongkong Land, UBS, and the Swire Group.
