Writing poetry is dangerous in Myanmar. Sometimes, you don't even have to write a poem, just having "a fax machine" is enough to get you into jail. Writing poetry is their painful, necessary and sustenance for survival. It is the weakest resistance and the strongest proof of being a person.
This is not just a collection of literature belonging to Myanmar. Taiwan has also gone through a white terror period full of censorship of speech and martial law. Being censored and oppressed is not just for poets, they are also ordinary people who have lost their choice. Through poetry creation, it inspires us to think about human nature, power and freedom, and also provides an outlet called hope for those who have the courage to express themselves and fight for freedom.
