Nobuyoshi Araki (NOBUYOSHI ARAKI)

Born in Minowa, Taito District, Tokyo in 1940, near the ancient red light district in Japan. The playground of his childhood was the grave, next to the house of prostitutes, and he grew up with pornography, life and death, and the combination of the three.

"Crazy old man" Nobuyoshi Araki's photography subjects include Tokyo street scenes, female bodies, flowers, sky and portraits. After suffering from cancer, the life/death dialectic in his works has become more intense. The self-created vocabulary "Erotos" combines "eros" (life, sex, this shore) and "thanatos" (death, the other shore) best illustrate his creative motifs.
