Digital replaces film, and mobile phones become camcorders.
12 emerging directors born in the 1980s broke into the world of "independent films" with small productions and low costs. With limited funds and a niche market, they often run counter to mainstream ideas and creative methods, creating a unique landscape in social culture.
"Honey Is Not Bad: Interviews with Chinese Post-80s Directors" is a collection of interviews conducted by the author in four places on both sides of the Taiwan Strait. The creator, who was also born in the 1980s, talked with 12 emerging directors with questions about creation and society. They are on equal terms. They also learn from each other. The so-called "independent spirit" does not lie in distinguishing whether a film is a commercial or underground production, but what the director is "independent of" in the creative process, and reflects on Bourdieu's cultural theory.
Every author has a creative process, which matures over time and can stop at any time. The 12 dialogues represent the original intentions of 12 young directors. Honey will not spoil, but it is the expectation of the new generation of film waves.
Movies are no longer exclusive to the silver screen, so what is a good movie?
