Xie Yanan, a local artist, has been creating for 20 years and has participated in many local and international exhibitions and exchanges.
Born and bred in Hong Kong, he has witnessed the city's dramatic political, social and economic changes over the decades. His life experiences here and now, as well as the local culture that nurtured his growth, also logically inspired his creations; not only did his works record the collective memories of Hong Kong people who are unique in the world, but they also actively responded to the current daily life. His paintings beautify people's vague memories and romanticize our old days, which are not all good to say the least. The colors in the painting resonate keenly with the ironic reality, like playing a symphony of sweet, sour, bitter, spicy and salty. As a reader, his paintings can be regarded as the image diaries of Hong Kong artists born in the 1970s; but as an artist, he has experienced a process of introspection under the drastic psychological and emotional changes of Hong Kong people over the past few decades.
