The term "Westerners" was originally related to the historical event of the Portuguese arriving in Macau? What kind of group are the "Macau Macanese"? How do they feel about their own identities? In the early days, many Portuguese-born mixed-races in Macao had African, Indian, Malaysian and Japanese ancestry?
Portugal leased Macau from 1557 until Macau returned to China in 1999, which lasted more than 400 years. In the early days, Macau played the role of a trade hub between Europe and Asia. The Portuguese descendants who were born and raised in Macau, because of their multi-ethnic, cultural and linguistic advantages, traveled in Macau, Hong Kong, Shanghai, and even Japan, and played a role in global trade. At the same time, it has become an important bridge to communicate Eastern and Western cultures. Later, with the weakening of Portuguese power and the opening of Hong Kong, the importance of Macau declined day by day, and the Macanese Portuguese began to disperse all over the world.
As time goes by, the identity and cultural identity of "Macau Macanese" gradually weakens in the next generation. This unique group may not be able to pass on their feelings for Macau to future generations, but the history they have experienced and the culture they possess should be was preserved as a testimony to the times. This is also the purpose of writing this book as a Macanese author.
