This book is not a reference book that deconstructs Chinese fonts or font structures from a professional font design perspective, nor is it a special book on Chinese font design theory that teaches people how to design Chinese fonts; rather, it starts from humanistic care and Hong Kong standards. To understand the relationship between the craft aesthetics of local calligraphers and social transformation. We hope to understand and record the city and local aesthetics we live in from multiple angles. By visiting and listening to the growth background of each word-maker, we can bring out the craftsmanship or technology and daily life of the word-maker from their personal experience. Relationship. After reading this book, I hope you can re-observe our city and understand and appreciate the font aesthetics and functions of our city from the subtleties.
The Hong Kong calligraphy makers introduced in the book are not hidden masters or traditional craftsmen. They have not received formal art and design training, but only live out their persistence in calligraphy. They make a living by making characters every day, and they use their special skills to write, paste, paint, scratch, saw, spray, bend, 𠝹 , pull and other methods to create characters for trucks, roads, etc. in our character-shaped city. Back alleys, under bridges, stone walls, large flower signs, film or neon advertisements and TV entertainment programs add a humanistic touch.
The book will be divided into three categories—Typefaces and Traffic, Typefaces and Craftsmanship, and Typefaces and Messages. Through interviews with seven typewriters, a large number of information images, on-site photography and aerial photography are used to record the production process, as well as the aesthetics and functions of Hong Kong typefaces with pictures and texts. Although Hong Kong is a small place, our calligraphy craftsmen have been quietly making contributions to Hong Kong.
