Three Stories

"Three Stories" is a trilingual (Chinese, Tibetan, English) annotated oral and visual account. This book compiles three oral stories from a Tibetan village in Shangri-La, Yunnan Province, China, which artist Sha Shuang encountered and collected during her research. The narrator is a young Tibetan man named Jiang Can, who returned to work in rural and urban areas after receiving higher education in the city. The stories come from his childhood memories. Sha Shuang created animations for these three stories and produced this book based on those animations. The book's illustrations are composite collages she created using various readily available media materials during her fieldwork.
