The Vagina Monologues: 10th Anniversary Edition

In 1994, Eve Ensler’s internationally acclaimed play, The Vagina Monologues, premiered. This play, written from her interviews with over 200 women of different ages, professions, sexual orientations, and ethnicities, celebrates the female body and sexuality, showcasing its complexity and mystery. It is considered a bible for a new generation of women. The play breaks taboos, is witty, humorous, full of empathy and life wisdom, and has won numerous awards (including the 1997 Obie Award for outstanding off-Broadway play). It provides a voice for women’s deepest fantasies and fears. After seeing it, you will never look at the female body and sexuality the same way again.

The success of The Vagina Monologues prompted Eve to launch the "V-Day movement" in 1998, with the goal of "ending violence against women globally." They organized women's groups around the world to perform The Vagina Monologues in their own countries and raise funds to help abused women.

In 2008, to commemorate the tenth anniversary of the V-Day movement, a special tenth-anniversary edition of The Vagina Monologues was published, including five previously unpublished monologues, a new preface written by Eve, and a meaningful ten-year stage history – from the HERE Arts Center in New York City to various locations around the world.
