"Countertenor" is De Quesy's first work. The style of painting is very Baroque, and the composition and color are extremely ornate. Covering topics ranging from carnivals, jesters' salons, circuses, freak puppet shows, antique hunting, and even arranged marriages and the machine age. He said in the preface: It will be a kind of declaration of mine: I regard comics as a continuation of art history, and intend to integrate all the artists who have influenced me so far: as the story progresses, readers can therefore Spot hints of homages to Egon Schiele, Gustav Klimt, James Ensor, or even earlier painters like Paolo Uccello.
It describes the story of the 18th-century opera eunuch, the mad cat Cado, in the grotesque and dark city--the city of Voids. The style is unique and changeable. With the strong color print style, through the combination of animals and mechanical characters, it is both fantasy and irony, constructing a deformed but gorgeous world. When the book was published in 1991, it received great acclaim and won the German Max et Moritz Award for Best Imported Comics in 1993.
De Quesy is quite popular in France, and is considered to be the most talented cartoonist after Moebius. His brushstrokes are vigorous and powerful, his style of painting is wild and rough like a draft, and he has a clear description of details and a unique style. Especially in recent years, he has co-published "Matsumoto Taiyo×Nicolas De Crécy Illustration Collection" with Matsumoto Taiyo, which has won the praise of many Japanese cartoonists, such as Terada Katsuya, Otomo Katsuhiro, Urasawa Naoki, Uesugi Tadahiro, Katsura Masakazu, Mashima Hiroshi, Taniguchi Jiro, etc... Matsumoto Taiyo once said to "FOLIGATTO", "His works are completely beautiful dances. He is my idol." Urasawa Naoki's praise for him is, "He is Jimo The most shocking thing since Biss!" Even the talented painter Terada Katsura once mentioned him and said, "It's so powerful that it's frightening, that's De Quesi—"
Eccenihilo is a town full of blood and desire, and the deformed citizens are mostly broken limbs and suffering from strange diseases. In order to revitalize the town and rectify people's hearts, the mayor decided to hold a grand carnival, and invited the world-famous eunuch mad cat Foligatto to return to his birthplace to sing for everyone.
The citizens began to prepare, from decorations to gorgeous costumes, and made super-sized dolls in the image of the crazy cat Kado as the king of the carnival, which gradually filled the city of Voids with a new atmosphere.
Crazy Cat Cardo kicks off the carnival with his charming singing voice. But on the second night, his voice became smaller and smaller, and then disappeared, and his voice began to spread among different citizens, pushing the carnival and magical atmosphere to a peak. With the help of two deaf-mute aunts, the crazy cat Kado, who lost his voice, can finally speak, but it is the voice of his "sister" that he has never heard before, so he reveals the secret of his birth... …
