The theme of this book is the garment industry in Macau. Seven female garment workers in the past are interviewed, and their next generation writes the story of her and her sewing machine, so as to restart the dialogue, recall the memory, and compose this episode of collective amnesia. The history of Macao, from the personal oral history of female workers, so as to observe the changes and transformation of Macao's industrial structure and the rapid development of society from the side.

The interviewees included native-born Macanese, new immigrants, and illegal immigrants of the day. They had different backgrounds, but they were also attracted by the rapid development of the garment industry and became part of the labor force for exporting garments in Macau.

"In the 1980s, women generally didn't have much work to do except making clothes"

In the 1980s, Macao entered a golden age of industrial development, and the garment industry became the largest industry in Macao. In the 1990s, Macao’s industry was under the pressure of rising operating costs and competition from neighboring regions. The tourism and gaming industry began to rise, gradually replacing industry as the leading industry in Macao’s economy. Most of the women interviewed in this group entered the garment industry at different times in the 1980s, but With the gradual decline of the garment industry, female garment workers left the industry one after another, or moved to other cities to continue garment making. The trajectory of their personal growth was closely connected with and overlapped with the development of Macao's garment industry.

Garment making not only allows female workers to pursue clear production goals with their own skills, but also empowers them with independent economic capabilities; clothing making also directly participates in their lives and leaves a deep imprint on their growth.
