A Feminist Guide to Pop Culture

We firmly believe that "more voices" will always lead the way to a new world.

In 2015, the Korean Women Workers' Association planned and created a feminist podcast called "Eul's Donkey Ears," later inviting feminist theorist and writer Sohn Hee-jung to be the host. This book compiles popular content from the podcast's "Popular Culture and Gender" episodes. After its official publication in Korea, it quickly gained attention and became one of the year's top non-fiction works on book websites.

Using "entertainment dissection" as its method, this book thoroughly deconstructs the misogynistic pathology behind the spectacle of "K-pop entertainment," providing incisive examination reports and detox guides. Every sentence is a pink bomb blasting patriarchal popular culture. At the same time, this book is a cautionary tale about contemporary entertainment culture from a gender perspective, and an anticipation and call for other possibilities: through careful observation and critical thinking about the culture industry, new perspectives and new narratives will ultimately emerge.
