Marcel is a French philosopher who ranks among the four great masters of existential philosophy in the 20th century along with Heidegger, Jaspers and Sartre.
Ruegger, a giant in interpretive phenomenology, regarded Marcel as his early guide, and his existential philosophy also laid the foundation for the "phenomenology of perception" later established by Merleau-Ponty.
His research methods are derived from existential thought and phenomenology, insisting that philosophy should start from specific life experiences rather than abstract thinking.
Most of the other existential philosophers focused on the anxiety, absurdity and tragic living situation of human beings, but Marcel saw the transcendence of individuals in despair and emphasized the hope and freedom that metaphysical light brings to people.

Marcel's unique life experience makes his description of human existence and essence different from other existentialists or phenomenologists.
His existential philosophy opposes purely abstract and objective thinking, but is based on concrete life experience and is a life principle to be practiced through action.
Different from Husserl's reduction and intuition of the transcendent self, Marcel believed that the self cannot be reduced, but should be completely open to existence, so that life can enter the peak experience of "presence" under the light of the highest being.
Marcel's self is not like Saudi who treats others as hell. Instead, he retreats humbly in the process of condensation, is penetrated by existence, experiences the connection of love between himself and another subject, and then finds the meaning and value of life. .

Father Lu Dacheng, the author of this book, is the first person to study Marcel in the Chinese-speaking world. He once knew Marcel personally and established a deep friendship with his family for half a century.
The articles included in this book demonstrate the results of the author's decades of research on Marcel, including works that directly discuss Marcel's thoughts, reviews that compare Marcel with other thinkers, and references to Marcel's thoughts on specific topics to propose unique interpretations, as well as translations of important documents by Marcel himself.
These reflections on exchanges with inner life, surrounding people, and ancient and modern sages reflect the culmination of the author's long-term dialogue with Marcel. For readers who want to understand Marcel's thoughts, this book is undoubtedly the best guide.
