Author Josef Müller-Brockmann, a pioneer of the Swiss graphic design style, is known for his minimalist and grid-based graphic designs, both of which have had a major impact on 21st century graphic design. Influence. Grid Systems in Graphic Design is a rigorous discussion of all aspects of grid systems, designed to help graphic designers and students of the field master a systematic approach to grid design. Forty years after its publication, the book remains a must-read textbook for graphic designers.

The book was translated by Xu Chenxi and Zhang Pengyu in 2016, and was published under the supervision of Yang Linqing and Liu Qing (Eric Liu). It was designed and produced by Yang Linqing, and it used the collocation of Qihei and Helvetica Neue of the Hanyi font. The book received a high score of 8.5 on Douban. However, due to the tight production cycle of the first edition, a lot of regrets were left, and in the following six years, the publisher also received a lot of feedback from readers.

Starting from 2021, Liu Qing, the editor of this site, began to revise the first edition and optimize the layout. This revision starts from the original German text written by the author, combined with French-Italian, Spanish-Portuguese, and Japanese translations, and has carried out a sentence-by-sentence review and proofreading of the content of the first edition under the standard of "ability to read sentence by sentence". For the inconsistencies between the German and English versions and the places where the original text is suspected to be wrong, they are sorted out by "translating as they are and adding translator's notes". In the end, I summarized the 60,000-word translation revision comments, and the revision rate of the text part exceeded 80%. In addition, in the typography part, on the basis of the first edition, more detailed improvements have been made for the Chinese and Western mixed layout and Chinese grid layout. After adjustments, the new edition is not regarded as the "second edition", but as the "classic edition first edition", which is sincerely presented to readers with a more perfect appearance.
