This book discusses three aspects related to graphic art: 1. the paradigm of illustrative and subjective expression; 2. objectivity and the constructivist approach; 3. the systematic training of graphic artists. Each of these three parts can stand alone, but to understand the evolution of the author's working method, they must be considered as a whole. Chapter 1 describes the journey from illustrator to graphic designer; Chapter 2 covers the importance and application of graphic design elements: typography, photography, illustration, logos, and color, as well as exhibition design issues and the planning of promotional activities as a unified whole; Chapter 3 explains the set of teaching principles for training graphic designers at the Zurich School of Arts and Crafts, where the author served as a graphic design lecturer from 1957 to 1960.
