◢◤Perhaps counterintuitively, suicidal behavior is, in a sense, almost a choice for survival. ◢◤

Globally, one person dies by suicide every 40 seconds, bringing immense shock and pain to their loved ones and society. Despite this, we still do not understand enough about suicide. Professor Rory O'Connor, a renowned scholar who has personally experienced two tragedies and has been at the forefront of suicide research for decades, actively advocates for this issue globally and has distilled his research into this book.
Unlike many books that view suicide merely as an "outcome" caused by stress or depression, the author tends to view suicide as an independent "act." This act is surrounded by causes and consequences, external forces, internal forces, societal perceptions, myths, stigmatization, and language used, among others. Through extensive interviews, listening, and integrating research data from various fields, the author meticulously analyzes suicidal behavior.
We also hope this book can help professionals who may encounter individuals with suicidal tendencies or those affected by such events, including social workers, school teachers, psychologists, medical professionals, and correctional officers. For only when we understand can we know what we can do. For those who have lost loved ones, understanding is also the beginning of the road to recovery.

"Dedicated to all who have lost loved ones to suicide, and to those who strive to live every day."
