"Are you kidding me? I'm a cat!"
Even if you are afraid, even if you run away, you still won’t change your nature!
Horrifying, funny, incredible

There is a cat who loves to eat fish. Of all the fish, it loves mackerel the most. "I haven't eaten mackerel for a long time. Let's eat mackerel tonight!" said the cat, who had just eaten mackerel at noon. During the walk, the cat kept thinking about mackerel. Suddenly, something flew over and knocked off the cat's hat. The cat saw that it was actually a mackerel. The cat was surprised, but what frightened the cat even more was that a group of mackerel swam behind him and kept saying to him: "You You ate mackerel!" The cat was so frightened that it ran away, but it still yelled "Are you kidding me, I'm a cat!" Can the cat escape the mackerel? And how did all this happen? What's going on?

"I am a Cat!" This little book has a very absurd appearance at first glance. A cat who loves to eat mackerel is chased by fish. While he is being chased, he shouts " I am a cat!" This sentence sounds like complete nonsense, but it is the source of courage that supports the cat. The author uses the reversal of cats and fish to imply that life is full of absurd encounters, but only by firmly knowing who you are and not changing your nature, you will have the courage and wisdom to face them. Cats eat mackerel, so how could they possibly be bullied by fish? So after the cat experienced this seemingly real danger, even though it had just been chased by mackerel, the cat still persisted in saying, "Ah! I haven’t eaten mackerel for a long time, so let’s eat mackerel tonight!” This is Yoko Sano’s philosophy of life.

In this book, Yoko Sano uses simple tones and neat brushstrokes to depict incredible magical scenes. In particular, the two bold all-black pictures and the two theater-style designs full of mackerel are amazing. The whole book has climaxes one after another, full of nonsensical amusement, simple yet profound.
