This is the first official publication by Japanese graphic designer Keishin Shirai. The book is divided into four chapters: Typography, Grid Structure, A Decade of Ideas, and Bookbinding Design. It features over a hundred of his works from 1987 to the present, each accompanied by detailed design explanations written by Shirai. It also includes articles such as "Typography – The Trajectory of Standardizing and Regularizing Linguistic Forms," "Type and Grid System – The Formation of Book Format," and "Page Design Created with a Grid System," detailing the history of typography, grid systems, and his own practical journey.

Keishin Shirai is the art director of the Japanese design magazine "Idea." Meticulous typography, exquisite printing techniques, and richly textured paper materials are hallmarks of this magazine. Keishin Shirai is also one of Japan's leading exponents of the grid system. A distinctive feature of this book is that it not only showcases his works but also elaborates on his design philosophy, methods, and processes. In October 2021, the China Design Museum will host the "Typography: Keishin Shirai" exhibition in China. This exhibition builds upon the Japanese exhibition, offering interpretations and extensions tailored for Chinese audiences. This book is planned to be released concurrently with the exhibition, and promotional activities such as guided tours and forums (online and offline) will be held during the exhibition period.
