political morality
political morality
Where does the legitimacy of power come from?
How can citizens live well and with dignity?
Is there really any morality in the political world?
"Those who live for their beliefs firmly believe that only by living out these beliefs in life can their personality be complete and society be just. This is an achievable ideal, as long as we are willing to work hard for it. Where there is faith, there is hope. I I hope this book can accompany Hong Kong people on their journey."
──Zhou Baosong
The first edition and expanded edition of this book have won:
The 8th Hong Kong Book Award in 2015 and the Hong Kong Publishing Biennial Award (Social Sciences) in 2017
A just society that values individual autonomy should provide fair opportunities and conditions for free and equal citizens so that everyone can achieve an independent life. This means that the state cannot treat citizens arbitrarily, nor can it treat citizens as mere tools, but must respect the basic rights of individuals. Politics must be ethical because people have dignity. This is the starting point of political morality.
The author has added a preface to the third edition, and two recent works are also included at the end of the book: "On Political Philosophy" and "Theses on a Just Society".
