For a thinker, there is probably nothing more beneficial than a walk. Doing nothing, serving no purpose, free and unconstrained, some thoughts are destined to be born only in such a state.

In this book, Cioran, "the last walker," transforms into a cartoon character, strolling through the streets of Paris, his mind naturally flowing with many timeless sentences. Wandering from Père Lachaise Cemetery to the Tuileries Garden, walking from Place de la Concorde to the banks of the Seine, amidst the postcard-like pages of Paris, profound philosophical sentences make us ponder the meaning of life, or rather, the "meaninglessness" as Cioran put it.

Emil Cioran, a Romanian-born French philosopher, is hailed as "the Nietzsche of the twentieth century" and "the best stylist in French literature." His works are renowned for their aphoristic style and their contemplation of suffering, nihilism, and other issues, and have been translated into over a dozen languages. He continued the philosophical tradition represented by Kierkegaard, Nietzsche, and Wittgenstein, influencing many prominent writers such as Susan Sontag, Italo Calvino, Milan Kundera, and Paul Celan. His representative works include On the Heights of Despair, Tears and Saints, A Short History of Decay, The Temptation to Exist, and The Fall into Time.

Patrice Leconte, a French painter, has long illustrated for numerous international literary and philosophical magazines, including the well-known British literary magazine Literary Review.
