The world is running naked - only moving forward!
For freedom and human rights.
Streaking started with a small bet.
Liu Xiaobo, the 2010 Nobel Peace Prize winner, was imprisoned in Jinzhou Prison and failed to come to Stockholm to receive the award. Chinese artist Meng Huang sent a chair from Berlin to Jinzhou Prison via DHL, but the whereabouts of the chair are unknown. The following year, Mo Yan won the Nobel Prize for Literature. Meng Huang once again sent a chair to the Swedish Academy, hoping to pass it on to Mo Yan and bring it back to China to the imprisoned Liu Xiaobo. The chair is not a bomb. Meng Huang believes that Mo Yan will take the chair back to China, while novelist Liao Yiwu holds the opposite view. Meng Huang lost, and a streaking action art event kicked off, outside the snowy Stockholm Concert Hall (Konserthuset), on the occasion of the Nobel Prize Award Ceremony, International Human Rights Day, December 10.
In 2013, the second streaker ran from one streaker to four: Meng Huang, exiled writers Bei Ling and Wang Yiliang (died in 2021), and 2012 German Book Industry Peace Prize winner Liao Yiwu. The time and place were the same. This time the appeal was They streaked to rescue Liu Xiaobo and his wife Liu Xia, who were under house arrest in Beijing. Under the spotlight of more than a hundred media outlets around the world, they shouted: "Liu Xiaobo! Liu Xia! China! Freedom!" before being arrested by dozens of Swedish police. He was knocked down, put into a police car, and finally acquitted without a fine of one krona (Swedish currency).
For two consecutive years, Meng Huang performed naked alone, completing an unprecedented performance art of streaking in protest.
The streaking run in 2013 triggered heated discussions in the Swedish cultural circles. The main reason for the controversy is that Ma Yueran supported Mo Yan to win the Nobel Prize for Literature.
Swedish National Television (Sveriges Television AB, SVT) published two letters from academician Göran Malmqvist vehemently criticizing streakers and Ai Weiwei. The cultural section of Sweden's most influential newspaper, Dagens Nyheter, published an exclusive interview with Bayling titled "Poetry is the Key to Freedom." Svante Weyler, founder of Weyler Förlag, the Swedish publishing house that publishes "Selected Works of Liu Xiaobo," defended "streaking" in the focus section of Swedish national television's cultural program.
From the debate on the streaking incident, the third estate, that is, the media's discussion of the incident, has focused on its deep relationship between literature and the country. In a historic move, the Swedish Academy's leaders and "naked prisoners" jointly issued an appeal for imprisoned writers to show their disapproval of Academician Ma Yueran's stance.
The more civilized a society is, the more tolerant it is and can tolerate dissent and criticism.
The theme of streaking is serious and the process is tortuous, especially the one in 2013. The process of the imprisonment and release of the four streakers, as well as their dialogue, through the joking and humorous words of Meng Huang and Wang Yiliang, make people understand. .
This book is both illustrated and written. The artist Meng Huang uses sketches to record the events. His style of expression is direct and simple, which is closer to and more thorough than the essence of streaking. The sketches are intended to use humor to ridicule the power of Chinese and Western countries, as well as democrats and politicians who pay lip service but do not live up to their words.
After reading this book, you will see the inspiration given by human nature, friendship and Western civilization thinking when facing conflicts.
