Mitsumasa Anno's imitation of the "Along the River During the Qingming Festival" scroll is drawn in the order of the Yellow River's flow, depicting scenes as one moves upstream. Along both banks of the river, there are bustling and prosperous scenes of common people's lives, including open-air markets, tourist boats, boat repair factories, and schools. The journey also passes through Guilin, ethnic minority villages, Xi'an, the Great Wall's frontier, the Silk Road, Dunhuang, the Loess Plateau, and more. It also depicts details of people's daily activities, leisure, and tourism.
