The 24/7 system, which arose with the expansion of capitalism, is not an empty buzzword. In fact, it is blurring the lines between day and night, reality and dreams, work and rest, public and private, and machine and human.
Under the 24/7 system, there is no pause button, no off switch. We are swept up in it, operating 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, non-stop. It ultimately erodes our daily lives, leading to distraction, impaired perception, and the loss of the ability to remember and dream. Sleep is an irreducible human need, the last remaining barrier against the 24/7 system, and a "natural condition" that capitalism cannot eliminate. If sleep is no more, where will humanity go?
