The world of sentient beings

This book collects thirteen essays by the renowned Macanese writer Ling Leng. It primarily describes the struggles for survival among the lower- and middle-class Macanese "mestizo" community from the mid-1940s to the early 1950s, and also expresses the author's tribute to her mentors and close friends. The characters in the book, who lived in Macau's past, also live on through the author's pen, leaving a historical mark on the small city.
