For so many people with different origins, what kind of memories should be preserved? How to remember? Is it about some people’s love and struggle, their integrity and sacrifice, or about the abuse, torture, sorrow, and even death they endured alone? Should we affirm their pursuit of political ideals, courage and selfless dedication, and respect their role as pioneers in the fight for democracy, freedom, and human rights, or mourn their misfortune and suffering, and lament their unjust and false cases?
Commemoration, memory or remembrance is not just about missing someone, it also makes people face themselves and think about them. It’s not that we are unwilling to step out of the past, but that we want to build a better society in the future that can be publicly participated and practiced. ─Display
Walking through the two White Terror Memorial Parks, Jingmei and Green Island, he made a difficult and far journey back.
