Little Xue is a little girl with a bad temper. She's mean and rude to people. When she gets angry, she screams, bangs on the floor, and cries loudly. Her heart becomes a mess, like the tangled wires on the street.

When her brother picks her up after school, he never says a word. So, she deliberately throws the house key down the drain, and the drain instantly swallows it. Little Xue secretly climbs down and finds herself in a strange place. It turns out to be the Land of Mud, a world full of mud and strange creatures. There, she meets the Mud Highness: the princess of the Land of Mud. The princess takes her through the Dark Jungle, the Invisible Pool, the Museum of Disgust, and the Anger Storage Room.

The surrounding mud booger monsters mock Little Xue for being afraid to go home. Little Xue does want to stay there, because then she wouldn't have to explain to her brother that the reason she's angry is because he never talks to her, leaving her heart dark. The more she tries to drive away the darkness, the more anger closes in on her, like a giant monster...
