In big cities in the middle of summer, the overwhelming crowding always makes people feel irritated and dull.
Let's follow the dachshund and set off to the endless beach and enjoy the comfortable sea breeze!
There, you can run and breathe...
▍Doug. Sarati's first self-written and self-illustrated picture book won recognition from many awards including the American Caldecott Medal, the Gitz Children's Literature Award for Illustrator, and Publishers Weekly's Best Picture Book of the Year.
▍Doug. Sarati uses smooth images and poetic words to three-dimensionalize the tension and busyness of urban life, and contrasts it with the tranquility and peace of nature, leading readers to escape from the hustle and bustle and rediscover the small blessings in life.
▍A heart-warming story about the friendship and love between a dog and its owner. The owner who loves the puppy empathizes with the puppy's feelings and takes it on a short trip to the sea, the beach, fresh air... Regaining peace and joy for them healed their bodies and minds.
When you feel tired and hot and fed up with everything,
Maybe, all you need is long sandy beaches and vast skies,
Take you back to your original self.
The puppy followed its owner out to do errands, from the post office to the laundromat to the optical shop, stopping and stopping along the way. However, the summer in the city is as hot as a furnace, with hot sidewalks, rumbling construction noises, and piercing horns. There were also crowds of people...it was so hot, so noisy, and so annoying. The puppy couldn't stand it anymore and just sat paralyzed in the middle of the zebra crossing! Fortunately, his caring owner sympathized with his feelings and took him into a taxi, then on a train and a ferry to an empty island. The vast sky, the blue sea, the long beach, the comfortable sea breeze... Here, puppies can run and play to their heart's content! As a result, the owner had a free half-day and spent quality time with the puppy. When the sun went down and night fell, they embarked on the return trip happily and contentedly, returning to the calm city, their familiar routine and their warm home.
This picture book, which won the American Caldecott Medal, is written by Doug. Sarati's first self-written and self-painted work, he transformed his experience and feelings of living in a big city into this fast-paced and vivid story. He used pencil and opaque watercolor combined with computer drawings to depict, using changes in color and composition to create contrasts and transformations. The first half of the story was painted in hot orange with vertical black lines to show the heat, crowding and tension of the city. The camera turned to After the Seaside, it is presented in cool blue-green tones with horizontal frameless grids and spreads, just like a short animated film on paper, expanding the reader's vision and mood.
