As a digitally addicted new generation of technology,
Will we end up as aliens who can't live without the Internet?
When the Internet is cut off, can the alien who focuses on the palm screen return to daily life?
▋Venezuela's most anticipated rising star of picture books brings philosophical reflections on human nature in the technological world. ▋
I looked up and saw the subway station sign on the cover, and as the character walked into the station and took the escalator, the network lights appeared on the dark page. Then, the platform hall was full of people, each of them had deformed heads with different shapes, but everyone was immersed in the virtual world on the palm of their hands. A sudden episode caused by the "Technology Network" will unfold in just a few minutes' drive later. An old-fashioned mobile phone suddenly appeared on the seat of the carriage, disturbing the network and cutting off the communication, starting the dissociation of people's brains, disrupting the normality of reality for a short time like a circus.
A seemingly innocuous episode may also be a reminder or hint: Has the alienation of technology become the natural nature of the human body? This book leads us into a deformed world that seems to be different from reality, but it just echoes the real society. Is "Alien World" a futuristic sci-fi fantasy, or is it the epitome of reality that is alienated by technology every day?
"Alien World" is an image work that combines picture books and silent comics, and presents a spectacle of contemporary technological alienation in 56 pages. The author, Sandro Bassi, is a Venezuelan visual artist. This is his first picture book, which was shortlisted for the 2019 Bologna Illustration Exhibition.
American 100 Scope Notes children's book critics think its visual effects are amazing, and its style can be said to be a combination of picture book writers Chen Zhiyong and Chris. Fan. The characteristic of Chris Van Allsburg, with the delicate sketch strokes of a pencil, depicts a surreal magical scene with a mysterious and suspenseful atmosphere. The author also made a pun in the title of the book. The original text "La Nacionalien" used it to imply the phenomenon of "alienation" (alienation) in contemporary society.
