White cat, black cat

The white cat liked the black cat's dark fur, and the black cat liked the white cat's pure white fur. They often stayed together. In the green grass, the grasshopper praised the white cat's fur for turning a beautiful green; when playing in the mud, the earthworm admired the white cat's beautiful brown color; chasing each other in the trees, the birds were amazed at how the white cat blended in with the yellow fruit on the trees; watching the sunset together, the black cat couldn't help but gaze at the white cat a few more times as the white cat turned the color of the sunset glow... No matter where it was, the white cat received everyone's adoration, while the black cat remained dark. The black cat left alone. Where should it go?

Author Tomomi Kikuchi's refined writing and free-spirited lines, paired with bold use of color, resulted from two years of painting hundreds of cat illustrations, culminating in this work that combines both art and literary reflection. It also won the Golden Apple Award at the 2013 Bratislava International Biennial of Illustration (BIB).
