Rare means uncommon, but not invisible. Rare diseases are not as rare as one might think; there are over 300 million people worldwide living with various rare diseases! You may have even met, or know, one of them. Seventeen years ago, a group of resilient patients and their families, actively confronting their illnesses, established the "Hong Kong Mucopolysaccharidosis & Rare Genetic Diseases Mutual Aid Group." Their aim was to provide mutual support and encouragement for patients with mucopolysaccharidosis and other rare genetic diseases, as well as their families. Today, some rare disease patients have access to advanced drug treatments and enzyme replacement therapy, which is the result of years of dedicated effort by the group.
“Seeing the Rare” allows people to witness 12 life stories of individuals who bravely face rare diseases and live strong.
