　　Shunsuke, an elderly writer in his sixties, has "battled beauty" all his life. Just when he thought he had finally lost the strength to fight beauty, he met the beautiful young man, Yuichi. Yuichi confessed to Shunsuke that he doesn't love women, only men.

　　Shunsuke loved women and suffered misfortune repeatedly; Yuichi doesn't love women, yet he possesses the perfect happiness the old writer yearned for. Thus, Yuichi became the embodiment of Shunsuke's art.
　　Shunsuke decided to return to his youth through Yuichi! He would take revenge on the women who made him unhappy through Yuichi.

　　Yukio Mishima challenged the social taboos of the time, and like "Confessions of a Mask", it caused a great stir. Some say "Forbidden Colors" is an extension of "Confessions of a Mask", while others say "Forbidden Colors" is a self-dialogue between Mishima's two inner layers in the novel. In any case, this novel cemented Mishima's unshakable position in post-war Japanese literature.
