Natsume Soseki is an outstanding representative of modern Japanese literature and is known in Japan as the "Great National Author." He entered the literary world during the rise of Japanese naturalism. His works are close to reality, mostly depicting the lives of ordinary people, especially the painful feelings of intellectuals who are conflicted internally and cannot find a way out.
