Hong Kong Ink Traces: Constructing Hong Kong through Calligraphy (Boxed Set)

From the 1930s to the 1980s, four renowned calligraphers in Hong Kong—Au Kin-kung, Tse Hei, Cheuk Siu-hang, and Lai Yat-ming—shaped the unique urban landscape of Hong Kong for half a century through their calligraphic works, such as shop signs, stele inscriptions, epitaphs, couplets, banners, business cards, and advertisements.

After four years of research and interviews, the author and team of "Traces of Ink" have for the first time extensively documented the lives and stories of these four calligraphers from multiple perspectives. Furthermore, they have recorded their paper-based, printed, and even rubbings of calligraphic works through various channels, unprecedentedly compiling them into a book. This collection provides insights into the commercial application value of calligraphic art. "Traces of Ink in Hong Kong: Calligraphy that Built Hong Kong" is a four-volume set. Each volume is designed with a double-gate binding: one side contains the textual content, and the other features a collection of works. This design allows calligraphy learners to easily research the calligraphers' biographical information while simultaneously viewing their diverse works.

This book set aims to academically preserve the beauty of Hong Kong calligraphy, contributing to the legacy of Hong Kong's visual culture.
