Hong Kong Americana: Aesthetic Imprints of Old Hong Kong

Introduction: Through unique photographic techniques, accompanied by delicate and humorous text, this book aesthetically documents existing old Hong Kong architecture and objects. The author has explored every street and alley in Hong Kong, bringing to life common and often overlooked aspects of old Hong Kong through four categories: architecture, handicrafts, street corners, and food.

This book features prefaces by Mr. Cheng Po-hung and Ms. Michelle Ma, and a title calligraphy by Mr. Au Yeung Cheong, the calligrapher for the former State Theatre's Cathay Cinema sign. We were also fortunate enough to interview Mr. Hins Cheung, a famous pop singer, at his century-old mansion Alberose. Furthermore, we reached out overseas to the fourth-generation descendant of the first owner of 190 Nathan Road, a corner tenement building facing demolition and rated a Grade III historic building, who shared the moving and profound family story during the Japanese occupation of Hong Kong in World War II. This book holds immense historical reference value and is a must-read for Hong Kongers.
