Okuyama Yuzhi, a boy born in the 90s, taught himself photography at the age of 18. He is the hottest new Japanese photographer and director today. This year is the 10th year of Okuyama Yuzhi's photography career. For readers in Taiwan, he chose to republish the photobook "BACON ICE CREAM". Together with Origin Publishing, he invited Taiwanese designer Nie Yongzhen to cooperate and fully authorize the photobook to be reborn, adding more than 30 new works that were not included in the Japanese version, and presenting it to Taiwanese readers with a new look.
At the beginning of the cooperation, Okuyama emphasized that he very much hoped to cooperate with Nie Yongzhen. But how to make a clear distinction from the original Japanese book? Nie Yongzhen emphasized: "The selection of images must be so wonderful that they cannot be compared, so as to convince readers that both the Japanese and Taiwan editions are worth reading." Therefore, Nie Yongzhen printed more than 200 samples of old and new works and placed them on the studio floor The remixing arrangement closely follows the title concept of "BACON ICE CREAM", reorganizing bacon and ice cream, two image objects with different sensory experiences.
Different from the Japanese version of designer Hattori Kasunari's full of saturation and fresh and light vision, the Taiwanese version of "BACON ICE CREAM" designed by Nie Yongzhen has a more loose and deconstructed image spirit. Compared with the more serious and customary form of the general photo book carrier, Nie Yongzhen designed a set of two volumes, two types of paper, with special sewing processing, to challenge the limit of details and freshness of photo book production.
The Taiwanese version of "BACON ICE CREAM" takes photography as the main body, and the relatively light outer volume skeleton conveys the freedom of niche publications and street appearances; Highly coated art paper divides the binding level by printing color. The combined binding of the main and auxiliary volumes establishes a ritual of viewing and hints of the best order for readers. Finally, Nie Yongzhen set a special highlight on the binding: the back of the book is sewn with two fluorescent green lines at an interval of 0.8 cm, so that when the entire photo book is viewed from the side, it produces a natural streamlined arc without corners.
