"Beijing Underground" is a story about people trapped. Four individuals are stuck in a Beijing bar during the summer after falling asleep on a black sofa. Three of them clearly understand that the only way out is to go "Beijing Underground." They engage in some chatting and small talk, gradually discovering that a Tengu mask on the wall can help them. Finally, they carry the Tengu mask out of the bar and walk down the street.
One day in Beijing, I passed out on a black leather sofa in a bar where we (Xue and I) were staying. I had never passed out before (so I wasn't sure), but I knew the state I was in was distinctly different from sleep. When I sat up from the deep sofa, the first thing I saw was the Tengu mask on the opposite wall. I realized I hadn't looked at it closely from the front before, so I stared at it for about ten minutes. I'm not sure when, but I eventually came to.
In short, things like Tengu, sofas, heat, wind, cold, bars, and subways are all transformations or direct uses of the Beijing experience. We initially only planned to stay in Beijing for a week, but ended up staying much longer. The people and events we encountered were truly interesting!
Later, we returned to Guangzhou.
